SGN Retail Responsible Retailer Statement

We recognise that some products we sell, such as alcohol, tobacco products, fuel and National Lottery tickets and scratchcards, can be harmful if misused. We take our responsibility as a retailer of these products very seriously.

To support our customers and the communities we serve, there are products that are age restricted, meaning that customers will be required to verify their age when making such a purchase, if they appear to be under the age of 25.

These restrictions are required by law and we operate a Challenge 25 policy at all of our outlets with multiple Challenge 25 posters displayed at each site, to advise our customers.

We have strong systems in place to ensure we do not sell age restricted products to any underage customers, including our Challenge 25 policy to help our colleagues know when to ask for age verification and how to refuse a sale of such products.

We also use till prompts, including a date of birth, to support our colleagues when asking for age verification. Our colleagues are trained to understand their responsibilities and legal obligations, with this training regularly reviewed and refreshed.

Test purchases are randomly made by multiple enforcement agencies to confirm the knowledge and actions of our colleagues to ensure that the law is complied with and age restricted products are not sold without prior age verification.
